Isaac Bushkin

I have been drawing most of my life and started painting and exhibiting in Philadelphia six years ago. I've hardly put down a brush since then. I now live and work in Portland. I am constantly working on new ideas and pushing my skill and craft as much as possible. My work mainly focuses on the natural world mixed in with a healthy dose of surrealism. I am fascinated with birds, bones and the relationships between plants and animals and nature on a whole. Much of my work is a process of experimenting with similar ideas until they grow into new ones. While this body of work is somewhat eclectic, some of the work dating as far back as 2004, I've picked a cohesive selection of work spanning an adolescent beginning through what I feel is a more mature stage of my career as an artist. You can see more of my work on my website: www.isaacbushkin.com

The gallery at Optic Nerve Arts is specializes in darker-themed, avant-garde work. Motivating the tendancy towards extreme art is the urge to shift the general gallery view point — from monetary gain through consumer motivated art, to that of motivating the viewer to a heightened emotional and physical reaction.

Artists who are interested in showing their work at the Optic Nerve gallery should please send or hand-deliver some reproductions of work (slides or print-outs) as well as a resume and artist statement.
