Rosey Covert
My images start or begin in the many variant locations of my days. I find the images for my paintings in coffee dates and make believe rendezvous; when deciphering the secret language of 12 year olds , and the hand we hold (you/me) when we cross the street. Sometimes I wrangle a friend-lover-acquaintance to pose, sometimes I make it all up. I create to see, for both the intricate focus drawing demands and the magician's flare of remaking things how I want them.
I haven't studied painting formally but I have learned incredible ways of walking through this world. I collected credits from 5 or 6 colleges before finding The Evergreen State College and graduating there with a full bellied, well rounded Bachelor of Liberal Arts. I think I've learned as much from navigating relationships and turning my dreams upside down to empty their pockets on my studio floor. I paint, laugh, draw, make, live in Portland. I know art improves our quality of life, and that images resonate amongst us, creating as many different stories as there are people to look.
The gallery at Optic Nerve Arts is specializes in darker-themed, avant-garde work. Motivating the tendancy towards extreme art is the urge to shift the general gallery view point — from monetary gain through consumer motivated art, to that of motivating the viewer to a heightened emotional and physical reaction.
Artists who are interested in showing their work at the Optic Nerve gallery should please send or hand-deliver some reproductions of work (slides or print-outs) as well as a resume and artist statement.
