I paint, most often, metaphors, memories, and small pieces of stories. Ultimately, when I paint I am working to invoke a sense of irony, sentiment or atmosphere. I am also very motivated by the desire to experiment with color tension, compositional tension, and intuitive relationships between, seemingly unrelated objects and subjects. Anything could fall into my subject matter but lately I have been most intrigued by animals, plants, and the human form.
In addition to painting I also write. Over the years my writing has left the page and bled onto the canvas. I write on my paintings, under my paintings, and on the backs of them too. As I work stories, memories, songs and poetry tumble around my mind and essentially, I want my work to convey that, to present as visual poetry. I hope that my work is weighted with mystery or loveliness.
